The second diorama was a big harder, had more miniatures and painting those happened in a span of 2 months. I believe this work has the best mud and terrain color and texture I have done till now.
Design
The 3 characters we played the Space Marine 2 campaign were, the Heavy (mine), the Assault (see the diorama here) and the Bulwark. The person that played bulwark insisted to face against Thousand Sons Exalted Sorcerers! Those pesky ones on top the shields flying around that were somewhat hard to face especially in the campaign with the stock Ultramarine characters we had.
The idea was simple:
- use some smaller ruins as I had more characters to stage the scene,
- use all 3 sorcerers to make the scene harder to overcome
- make the bulwark removeable for some reason which I still don’t know why….

Base Building
Classic mixture, of stucco/filler layering some scatter 40k bits and pieces from various boxes and the Archon Studios box set for 40k terrain (the most destroyed pieces possible that I found).

Terrain was ok for now, to start painting the main character.
Bulwark
The bulwark from the game is a bladeguard veteran from GW. The one model that had all the bells and whisles that you could get during your character leveling was the Captain on Relic Shield. The shield was almost identical with the fully upgraded one from the game so it was a perfect combination.
The only thing was to learn how to paint Black Templar’s cross. Easy-ish.

Dunk in black contrast, gold pieces, some red highlights, metallic for the metallic, bone color for the fabric and papyrus around the model, some white and black for the Black Templar symbols = done!
Sorcerers
Sorcerers took me the most time, ended up painting one of them in a couple of days and the rest 2, 2 months later! The whole gold and blue scheme is not my favorite, certainly would not have a Thousand sons army in the future!
That said I managed to go power through and finish it a couple of days ago.
